Technical Assistance to Support Smart Farming in Kenya

April 2, 2025

As part of its ongoing commitment to knowledge transfer and local capacity building, HiView regularly provides technical assistance to its African partners, particularly in Kenya and Mozambique.

In June 2025, HiView collaborated once again with ThirdEye Kenya — a long-standing partner focused on bringing drone-based insights to smallholder farmers. This mission involved close support in the processing and interpretation of NDVI imagery, which highlights crop stress and vitality using near-infrared data.

Drone flights were conducted over agricultural plots in Nyeri and Laikipia counties, covering key crops including cabbage, capsicum, and maize. By analysing the NDVI maps generated from these flights, the team was able to identify areas of underperforming crops, advise on targeted interventions, and ultimately support more efficient water and nutrient use.

The collaboration reflects HiView’s mission to make advanced monitoring tools — such as Flying Sensors and NDVI analysis — accessible and actionable in the field. The knowledge gained during these joint activities is also used to refine local workflows, support agronomists, and empower farmers with timely, data-driven decisions.

Looking ahead, HiView will continue to work closely with its regional partners to scale up the use of remote sensing tools for sustainable agriculture across the continent.
