ASSESSMENT OF FOREST BIOSMASS ON LEUSDERHEIDE
2016 - the Netherlands
The Leusderheide is a heath area situated at the Utrechtse Heuvelrug in the middle of the Netherlands. The area is used by the Dutch army as a training area. Eelerwoude is responsible for the maintenance of this forest area that is rich of undergrowth. Biomass volume of the undergrowth are normally assessed based on ground observations at the costs of many person days. HiView has executed vegetation mapping based on NIR (Near Infra-Red) footage from Flying Sensors (drones, uav). This approach is much more cost effective and reliable compared to ground-based observations.
With this project HiView has contributed to a cost-effective and accurate monitoring of biomass in forest areas based on Flying Sensors’ information.
