Nature Reserves Drenthe Repeat Monitoring

August 9, 2020

As part of efforts to improve the conditions to conserve nature reserves in Drenthe, HiView was requested to monitor and map vegetation development. In 2018 HiView mapped the same nature reserves in the Dutch province of Drenthe. With the current project, we can see how the vegetation has developed in the last two years. This gives us great insights into what vegetation types are in decline, and which types expand in the reserve. Based on these insight greenery maintenance policies can be adjusted and fine-tuned to ensure that a diverse landscape remains in place.

A total area of 1400 hectares is being mapped, which consists of the following four reserves: Matingerveld, Dwingelderveld, Holtingerveld, and Drents-Friese Wold. These areas are all part of the European Union’s Natura 2000 nature protection areas. These areas are designated for the conservation and protection of habitats and species across Europe.

HiView works in close cooperation with Borgman Beheer for this project. We are proud to contribute to the goal of protecting this invaluable piece of nature that already faces the grave consequences of climate change.
